Andrew Leslie apprentice platers

Apprentice platers from the yard of Andrew Leslie, Hebburn in 1883. The vessel behind is the Aberlady Bay built in 1883 and wrecked off Cape Lookout, North Carolina, on a voyage from Port Royal, South Carolina to London with a cargo of phosphate rock on the 10th May 1889.

Great photo Peter.

It’s of interest to me as my great Grandparents married in December 1884 in Paisley, Scotland and came down to Hebburn before mid 1886.

G G/f was a hand rivetter and I would assume dressed like those lads and worked in Leslie’s all his life in Hebburn.
