Does anyone (other than our generation) still wear polished leather shoes?

Most people seem to wear trainers these days, you can’t beat a good pair of leather shoes, for us women, to my mind,my ou can’t beat a good leather handbag.

Gotta agree with you there, Liz, about the shoes, but obviously, take your word about the handbag... don't normally use one....

Took me years Liz to realize the saying you get what you pay for.Good leather shoes and bags always worth that bit more.

That’s very true Maria, I once worked for someone who told me ‘Liz if you can afford the Rolls Royce don’t buy the Mini’!!! I think that is true.

Makes sense Liz .I have to buy nothing but Leather for Shoes now years ago if I liked the shoes whatever they were made from just got them .So many sore heels with blisters we live and learn.

Maria/Liz, many years ago, my sister told me to aways buy a leather Handbag and shoes. She said if you wear a cheap dress with a leather bag and shoes no one would notice the dress was cheap, but if you wore a very expensive dress with plastic bag and shoes, people would just think the dress was cheap. Something I’ve always remembered.

I am still wearing Crocket and Jones Tassle Loafers which cost me an arm and a leg 30 years ago.
You should see the price today which is eye watering.
But including being properly cobbled a couple of times the annual cost of ownership has been just about £10 a year. So overall cheaper than cheap shoes. I also have about four pairs of proper Oxfords from my business days mainly just gathering dust!
And my collection of brushes (brown and blacks/hard and soft) plus burnishing cloths sit in my Valet box along with the various shades of polish invariably Kiwi !
I even polish my leather slippers from time to time. Pathetic or what!!

PS I wish there was a travelling cobbler like the guy in the pic. I have to travel 15 miles to visit my "proper" cobbler. Many of the booths at supermarkets dont come up to scratch when restitching leather soles. There are exceptions however!

We have a very good collection of shoe polishes black, brown, navy, tan, neutral, then we have shoe brushes for use on the various colours of shoes, we also have suede brushes, cleaner for patent leather, the number of cleaning clothes is endless, I have to say my husband does keep the leather shoes looking very good.

Sheila you are right a good handbag and shoes says so much about a person, I try to keep quiet about how much is spent on handbags and shoes though.
