Can you identify this object please.

I think I know what it is. It came in a tin which has disintegrated if I remember correctly.

I came across it while going through some old collection of bits.

I think it’s from around the late 1930’s.

I very much doubt that there are many other samples of this around now.

Both sides are almost identical with the exception that the trade mark number is only on one side.

It’s about 3 1/2 in dia. And a 1/4 in. Thick. The trademark is 21(9 ?) 047. The number in the brackets could be 9, 8, 6, 5, 3 or 0.

Tried to find info on line but no luck.

I thought it was an old coin until I read your description.
I Googled this Allan.
It could be the the lid from a Tin of Dental Impression Material early 1900s:
Stent's compound was a dental impression material used to fill dental cavities and create impressions after endodontic treatment.

I read the same as Mac C (Medical) as used in a bypass Op.

So what is it, Allan? In other words, is it solid? Metal?
Clearly from what MacC found, it's associated with the Stents Compound, used in dentistry.

But you said this used to be in a tin, which disintegrated....

So what was it used for...Advertising? Bit small, I would have thought...

I’m not fully clear on what it is but it could well be as been said for dental impressions.

I had thought it was a form of tooth paste, but it survived at least 35 years under the sea and did not dissolve. It looks as if it hardened and took on some colour from the seawater hence the tarnishing.

At the time ( around 1980) you could find rolls of film, lead soldiers and jars of Ponds cream, those white shaped jars of which I have two, one empty the other still about 2/3 s full the lids gone though.

Now then where did I put those two jars ?, going to be a bit of a job to find them. Hope they haven’t gone out the door!

Regretfully I no longer Dive but there will be very little left on the wreck as about 4 years after I picked those items up a Scrapper anchored over the wreck and made a right utter mess to say the least.

The one thing the wreck was noted for was the amount of fish about it, you could not count then at times and I think they were Pollock in the main.

One of my favourite dives off the Northumberland coast.
