Another Ashington joke

A lad goes for a swim at the baths in Ashington. He's swimming about and notices a girl winking at him and she blows him a kiss. The lad swims over to her and says 'are you flirting?' 'No' she replies, 'am on my tippy toes'.

Nice one Brian. Jackie I had to read it twice, it made me laugh as that is how a certain Lord Cunningham would pronounce floating. My daughter could mimic his “posh” Geordie accent off perfectly.

AS to Cunningham, Sheila,he was about 4 years ahead of me at JGS. And even then a pompous, creepy type!!
I know what you mean about his acquired posh Geordie accent but born and raised in Felling, Co Durham, he wouldn't have pronounced "floatin" in the Ashington manner. I see his wiki says born in Durham....that sounds better for His Lordship than Felling I guess!
After University he quickly joined the family firm........never had a proper job.....but Union Official and Labour Man.

Gravy train comes to mind!

Mac C, I read he claimed £100,000 from the tax payer, for air travel from Newcastle to London. His accent is embarrassing. My daughter has never visited the North, but she was perfect mimicking him.

Yes I have seen reference to that £100k figure too which I assume is the current running total.

I know that this is a link to The Mail in 2013 which I normally eschew but clearly the author of the piece has the same visceral loathing of the man as I do!!

He had a good teacher in his father. A Labour councillor, later jailed for 5 years for fraud, connection to Poulson. Does anyone remember the Drama “ Our Friends in the North.” All about the Poulson scandal. I think Dan Smith was involved. I had left the north, so didn’t read anything about it. We still have the box set, really good. You are absolutely correct Liz, How the local people keep voting for them is a mystery to me.

Loved Our Friends Up North, we have the box set as well, it was more or less about T. Dan Smith, it is one of those series you can watch often as each time you realise you missed something th3 times previously watched.

You are right about Daniel Craig, also the others Mark Strong a very good actor, Gina McGhee (sp)?, and isn’t it Christopher I forget his surname.
