Remember them well, went there by coach once a week from Clegwell.

I went to 'Jarra Baths' every week in the 1950s with the school & also on other days with my mates.
I've dived off the top of that Balcony a few times where the water was just 6ft. Must have been mad

Norman, I remember jumping from the diving board, but was never able to dive 😀

Don't make beautiful buildings like that nowadays, remember the diving board was about maybe 15 foot high, to dangerous for the snowflakes today. 🤣🤣🤣

Dad took me there every Sunday, first into the slipper baths and then into the pool !

Went there the last 4 years 1962-65 at St Aloysius school and got my 25 yard swimming certificate. Those were the days.

I remember the place very well, in early 1967, prior to going to Clegwell, I learned to swim properly and to dive too, under the watchful eyes of Mr Metcalf.

There was a lady who lived across the road who sold squares of toffee and toffee cakes. Anyone remember her?...

I remember the shop Stan & bought toffee there aswell but cant remember the woman.

She was a typical 1950's granny with an apron, permed hair and well built wearing glasses. She sold through her living room window! I can still picture her like yesterday.I am 100% certain the toffee squares were from a Welches bar with a white wrapper with a cow on it! The toffee cakes were hers. And Joe Metcalfe was a judo fanatic as well as a biker. If Gerry Roberts is reading this, he may remember the green flippers he had!

The toffee was in lots of shops at 6d and was made in North shields by Denise Welches father. Denise being on Loose Women! Small world!
