Patrick's shop on Wagonway Rd !

Anyone remember it ? I used to go there when I lived in school street flats in 1973. I always remember the Frys chocolate bar mirror behind the counter with the 5 boys on it! I also recall the gas mantles hanging around the tiny shop. The lady had a beard and was a kind lady. Her husband liked a chat now and again. Pity shops like that are well gone..

Here it is as a header specially for you Stan.
I only went in that shop once.
I wanted my young son to see what it was like compared to modern shops & it was like stepping into the 1800s. Shame it couldnt have been preserved somehow.

They had a son David who served his apprenticeship as an Electrician in Hawthorne Leslies.

Mac was the son not called Alan (Bond) I know they had three daughters too.

Yes remember it well. My in-laws lived in the flats same year .Often when visiting went across the road to the shop most of the trade went to Frankie Firth the shop he had in the middle of the flats happy days loved the insides of those flats my sister also had one .

Thanks Norman. The council tried several times to get compulsary orders on the shop and eventually did. As you say Norman it was like stepping back in time! sad to see it go. I wanted that Frys mirror but sadly didn't get it!

Our family lived in Morrison court then, the end house on the ground floor nearest to the railway line, remember Mrs Patrick well. Used to cross the line to go to the shop until they built a wall, I think then part of it fell down

I only remember going in there a couple of times in the late 1980s. I think that it was demolished around the early 1990s. It was on tv on Highway with Harry Secombe in the 1980s.

Mr. Patrick was a good artist and painted a large mural on the wall nearest Palmers.

Mac I believe he got told off by the council for that but it enhanced the shop.

Stan, today’s header is a typical example of just how good an artist Mr. Patrick was.
