Hebburn Quay junior school.

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone would be able to point me in the right direction as to how to go abouts finding history on my old school. I've searched but absolutely nothing shows up. I know the school was built mid 1880s and burnt to the ground in 1986. I'm sure it was a former boarding school.

I will check what I have on it tomoro sometime.
It was called the Quay Board School' because it was ran by the Towns school board.
It was not a school where children lived .

I can't find anything about when the Quay Board School was built Lesley.
What was the surname of your family that attended the school & when?
I have a lot of class photos that your family member could be on.
I know of many people who attended that school including my dad. Recently I've mentioned RAF war heros and they attended that school.

Norman I am right in thinking that there were 2 board schools.
The quay board school
The colliery board school

There was the 'Newtown Board School' & the 'Colliery Board School' making 3 'board schools' Carol..

Went there from 1945, always knew it as The Quay Board School, the Head. Master was a Mr. Jenkins , a smashing man.

Know it well.I was born Oct 1927 ,so, In about 1936 I was pushed , kicking and screaming though the gate into the school yard,I was not a happy bunny. I don't thinkI ever found out what education was supposed to every victorian, the cane was the teacher.
In August 1939 moved to the new all singing all dancing Clegwell School. Briefly, I thought this is how education should be, but, but along came Sep3rd 1939.Myself and many others were up sticked in the big evacuation, to be scattered hither and thinner to strange homes and places for the next three or more years.AND! before the war had ended I was in the army ,ready ,and, willing to defend King and Country ( including my home town HEBBURN.

History will show that within six month Mr Adolf threw in the towel. Why, you may well ask, well, he had heard that me and my best pal at the time(Peter) had joined in the war Wow! he exclaimed1 time for me to go!!!

Sorry the start date to my school should be1933- NOT - 1936
