Must have watched that docu 100 times,one of the best local documentary,s I've ever seen, some fantastic characters in it,most deceased but still so interesting, Thanks Norman.

A relative of mine used to grow leeks for showing, so I went to the Lord Nelson leek show and others many times! Brings back a lot of fond memories.

I love Leeks, have watched this video several times showing how big our Leeks would grow, my Grandfather was a Miner and always grew his prize Leeks along with everything else. Oh how I wish I could have some of my Mother's Leek pudding. This morning I bought some Leeks at the supermarket, of course they look like 'scallions' still ... they're Leeks. I picked Morels and Asparagus in my backyard and they're good too though a very short growing season. Enjoy when you can!

Loved it Norman, I think I enjoyed just listening to the Geordie Accents as much as anything. I don't think anyone can grow leeks as they do on Tyneside, we also never used to miss the Lord Nelson show, leeks like you will never see anywhere else, and flowers too.

Brilliant Norman. I seem to remember Hebburn Park having a Marquee for a Leeks show, also prized Dalia's’ Tables set out with cards for 1st and 2nd Prize. I sure there was lots veg for prizes as well.

The Lord Nelson leek show was nearly always won by George Stonehouse! A champion! The rules were tight then.

I don’t think anyone quite understands how and why the North East is very into leek growing and shows, people down south just don’t get it.
