Jersey Royal potatoes

I remember in past years people were saying Jersey Royals don't taste the same, we were right, farmers were taking seaweed and sand from the beaches year after year and eventually they were stopped from doing this. It obviously affected the taste when the practice was stopped but didn't affect the cost. If you see Kidney potatoes in your local shop buy them instead,same potato just grown in a different place.

Just as a matter of interest have you noticed how large strawberries are this year, earlier in the year I did read an article that said this would happen they weren’t wrong.

Yesterday we actually bought some locally grown cherries, we bought them from a market stall in Ludlow, they aren’t bad but I think it is still a little early in the season for English cherries.

Yes our strawberries(Cambridge variety) are a good size, the sunshine is obviously helping. My cherry tree has fruit but are nowhere near ripe yet. I would certainly think mid to late June before we see British cherries.
We have 4 apple trees all in fruit in different stages of growth so it will work out well as not everything will ripen at once. Tomatoes are starting to show fruit, white onions ready to lift next month as will our first early potatoes.The heat has been double edged as some things have gone to seed with the heat so it's a case of being more vigilant. But fingers crossed it looks like being a good year.

We will be in Puglia, Italia on the 3rd. Turi is the home of cherries but we will miss the annual festival because the weather has been so hot that the cherries are early.
Cant wait to get my half kilo at the town market. Jean will probably make a Clafouti despite being on her hols. I am a lucky man.

Sounds wonderful Mac, I love Claufouti, I love cherries, I don’t think our local,cherry farm will be open until end June, there website hasn’t any details as yet.

Love clafouti, we make it with plums too, I reckon it would work with apricots too.

Bria, I think that apricots might not have the flavour that cherries and plum# have, mind you I could be wrong.

I see that "fingers" Sance is back

My French friends who are sticklers for Lyonais tradition would be horrified at the use of other than sour cherries even though plums are also widely used in France.
I dont care . They all sound delicious!!

Back from the tangent 🤣 my daughter bought me some Jerseys few weeks ago, if they hadn't been in a Jersey royal type bag I wouldn't have believed they were Jerseys, I've bought loose ones since and they definitely aren't anything like three or four years ago, used to love them.

You're paying for the name, the product isn't what it was. As I said before just by kidney potatoes, or if you can't get them Charlotte or Jazzy potatoes are nice new/salad potatoes and readily available.

We picked a half dozen of the ripest strawberries today , our first of the season, they were as sweet as honey.The sun definitely made the difference .

Now that’s good news Brian, were they big?

We bought strawberries from the market in Ludlow on Thursday they were grown in Herefordshire quite big and extremely sweet, they were quite cheap as apparently the sun had brought on a glut, good news for us but I guess the growers would prefer to have a steady supply.

A very good size. Loads of taste and colour,I've about 4 dozen plants in the bed, we lost a couple to beasties but they're netted so it keeps losses to a minimum, these will all get eaten as they are too good for jam, I feel an Eton Mess coming on.
