Government's cause problems not the people

When will they figure it out that Wars dont work & no one wins.
The new Defence Secretary John Healey who's been in the job 5 mins said we are going to get armed for any threats from Russia or China & it will cost £billions.

A better & cheaper idea would be for leaders of our Western countries to visit Russia and China and talk talk talk because no one wins in war especially if WW3 ever happened with Nuclear Weapons involved.
Ive watched many Documentaries over the years and a recent one called 'race across the world' is a good example of what I am going to say. The show involves groups of ordinary Brits tasked to race across China & sign in at a checkpoint Hotel, and then off again to other Asian Countries. Everyone these groups met on their journeys were lovely friendly people pleased & anxious to help them. It shows that ordinary people are willing to help each other.
It's Governments and the Leaders that cause wars, and then our ordinary people have to fight & die because of it.

A lovely sentiment.
But there has to be a will on both sides (two to tango) and sadly I see no evidence of that from either of the aggressor Nations named.
Those of us in our latter years should remember the attempts to "talk to" a little Austrian bloke with a tash, which failed so dismally!
In the schoolyard you punched a bully on the nose to see him off. In world affairs you make sure you have the military ability to punch aggressors on the nose!!

I know what you mean Mac. Its a massive problem, but holding talks & becoming friendly with each other is the cheapest option..
China, Russia, North Korea and the West all need to think what a war would mean. Each of us can kill the other so even if the UK was obliterated our Nuclear Submarines are still at sea about to kill them so no one will win and millions of good people that didnt want a war end up dead and the earth is contaminated with radiation for hundreds of years or more for any survivors..

US President Franklin D Roosevelt warned the people to beware the military-industrial complex - the relationship between the military and the defense industry that supplies it and profits when the country goes to war.

There is a painted sign on a fence near where I live that says something about wars that rich men start them and profit from them but poor men fight and die in them.

I also remember reading years ago that the best way for two countries to have a peaceful relationship was for there to be trade between them. If you have a good trading partnership that is mutually beneficial then you are much less likely to end up in military conflict, I would think.

Who was it that said "jaw-jaw is better than war-war"? Churchill or Macmillan, one of the two.

Yes, AJG, that was the whole theory behind the Common Market (as was) being set up post-WWII, that if Europeans traded with each other, they were less likely to go to war.

The common market was fine Malcolm, but when voting for it, we weren’t told the ultimate idea was a European Union. My sister in law had a neighbour who immediately put fences and shrubs around his house, told her and her husband “ fences make good neighbours “. Perhaps he had a point. Thinking more of us having our borders back.

That’s correct Sheila, it was meant to be a trading partner only, I still wasn’t convinced so voted not to join, I never changed my mind. Thing is different countries have different ideas on how things should be done, they never agree, the Common Market, as it was, should have remained a trading place only, it might have worked out differently and cost so much less.

I have to agree with you Liz. People usually like living with their own kind. You just have to look at Leicester and Bradford to see Asians are not into mixing with us.
