Why is David Beckham (Just one of many Footballer's who played for England) being Knighted and will now be known as Sir David Beckham & of course his wife will be Lady Victoria Beckham?
What special thing has he done over and above other Sports people to be knighted?

Norman, one of his supporters was unicef, United Nations charity for children , he has been working for the charity for over20 years. I think he may also work for one of the Kings charities and has raised £millions for charities. Seeing who have been given knighthoods in the past I would say why not. And I never watch football😀

Beckham has tried really hard to get this Knighthood, the supposed affair he had a few years ago didn’t help him, mind you he hasn’t been the only one to blot his copy book!!! Anyway the way Knighthoods are given away I guess giving one to him is no big deal.

Liz, I was always surprised at how a particular female journalist and others were always unsupportive. I often thought, has he and his wife done to well for the haters. I’m not a fan, but just wondered how he gets so much bad publicity. His family children all good mannered and polite.

A little thing that could happen is if the leak about the knighthood was from the Beckhams before the official announcement is the honour could be annulled.

I think he is unpopular because people see him as greedy. The Beckhams are wealthy millionaires but he still wants more and more doing lucrative TV ads.

He was supposedly pushing for a knighthood a few years back and wasn't happy when it wasn't forthcoming at the time. A very arrogant man.

I think it's about time they stopped giving these knighthoods and other awards to sports people, singers and actors because they are doing a job they love, not because they have to, not like the average person has to.

I have to agree with you Joseph. I’m in the minority but I think, he is a decent lad. I remember he hired a private plane to visit the Swedish guy, Sven Ericsson who was dying. Sven Ericksson, said the had a nice chat and a drink and it meant a lot to see David. Sorry, but a lot of sour grapes, sorry Norman. Most of the recent new Lords are there because they lost their seat in Parliament. If we go back far enough I remember a guy was made a Lord because he provided an overcoat for Mr Wilson, the Prime Minister at the time. I’m sure there are lots more undeserving that are Lords.

I always thought Beckham was a decent footballer in his day but now I think he is a greedy man. He's on at least 4 TV adverts....Aliexpress Stella, Pepsi(or coke),after shave and God knows what else. He must already be an millionaire.

I know folk who've spent a lifetime in all weathers working for good causes to help others and died without recognition. These are the folk who do not want a medal. Like I said months ago, you'll get one free one day with a box of Persil..

Not so much bothered with Knighthood’s as I am about those given seats (or should I say beds) in the House of Lords, another waste of tax payers money with daily allowances and expenses fiddles, The old pal’s act !
