TV Ads!

Has anyone noticed the TV ads lately and how more ridiculous they are getting. First there's the one with the collie dogs, then the lynx ad with everyone sniffing each other.. Whatever happened to " My mum uses Persil"! Anyone ? The Walkers crisps ad is another!...

I agree with you Stan,I find the Lynx advert offensive. I hesitate to put my head above the parapet, as an oldie as perhaps I’m not in tune with the majority, but I’ve read since, there have had a lot of complaints.

All comments are very true, I find that advert where they are smelling each other extremely offensive, it should be banned, whoever thought that up must have a very warped mind.

It doesn't look like these ads have got us breaking down the doors to buy the products. Let's be honest are we the target audience? Not really, we get wheelchairs, stairlifts, ready made meals and cut price funerals

The most pathetic advert for me is LNER. Cannot understand why it's on so much, it's not as if they have competition from other train providers for direct service to London from Newcastle.

Fortunately in my 81st year I still have no requirement for the products you list!
I think that the comment Stan first made was about the presentational qualities of many of the ads whomsoever they may be directed at!
Even as a very broad minded person I see many as rude, intrusive and worst of all non product related. The Ad Agency execs need to wake up to this. Woke is going out of fashion as is DEI

Neither do I, they assume we spend our days on front of mind numbing quiz shows and property shows and the ad breaks daytime are full of the ads I mentioned. You know they've succeeded when your discussing them .

The philosophy is to make them look silly so that they become items of conversation. Just like this thread. How many folks would give them a second thought if they were quite banal. However my particular hate is the fried chicken one where a man is dipped in a river and comes out resembling a piece of battered chicken.

So Tom. Am I reading correctly from your first two sentences that you consider items posted on this site to be deliberately silly?

You are correct that adverts should never be banal.......but they should connect "product to people" and vice versa and leave a lasting "must have" impression! I feel that many today fail at that level.

In the 1970’s I worked in the Marketing Dept of the Vicks products company, Richardson Merrill, as it was, I had many dealings with the Advertising company used, I have to say in those days the people responsible for advertising the Products knew how to connect with the general public not like today.

The whole idea of advertising is to get you to talk about it .that exactly what they want my beef is the amount of adverts between shows very rarely watfch i t v just record

After trying to find the address for Lynx, I did manage to find they are originally French. However I have sent them an E-mail expressing disgust and mentioned that is what a dog would do. I am awaiting a reply, I'll keep you posted IF I get a reply.
