Hebburn riverside mid to late 1920s

HMS Nelson was launched at Armstrong Whitworth's in Newcastle 1925 & commissioned 2 years later.

If anyone is interested here is quite a lot of the history of HMS Nelson in WW2. Brilliant information on it and other Royal Navy warships.
Tyne built aircraft carrier HMS Victorious is mentioned in this brilliant article.(My uncle was on that aircraft carrier I mentioned last week).

And what surprised me, was that some of the crew were involved in a mutiny, in 1931.

Known as the Invergordon Mutiny, it started because of the depression, and costs had to be cut, so the government of the time decided that all navy pay was to be cut (along with all other civil servant pay)
