Harvesting

We are lifting and planting fruit and veg as June progresses, our strawberry bed has given over 7kg of large juicy fruit so far, they're too food for jam so we've been given excess to fellow allotment holders and neighbours. Our brown onions are lifted now as are our garlic and are hanging for a few days to dry. Squash are in as are the beans and corn. Courgettes are in alongside beetroot in bed with spring onions. And we've prepared the recently vacated garlic bed for leeks, autumn onions and carrots, the leek and onion plants will keep carrot fly at bay. Soft fruits are ripening nicely. We'll be lifting our early potatoes soon, along with the red and white onions. Tomato, cucumber and chilli plants are starting to form fruit. The aubergine plants are in full flower and will hopefully start fruiting shortly. Apples are growing nicely, I've been taking off the smaller fruit but still expect a drop in the next week or so but it's a large healthy crop so I reckon we won't go short, various salads and herbs thriving and my wasabi is growing well, time will tell. The summer planting will go on till July end harvesting from September onwards as winter veg will go in from then. Long term veg like a lot of the brassica will be lifted from August onwards with some going through to the autumn frosts and into winter. We have Oca tubers growing, they're a South American tuber similar visually to Jerusalem artichokes, this year's will be harvested but kept to plant in the new year to give us a decent harvest next year. All is looking good aphids are at a minimum as ladybirds are everywhere and are welcome visitors. Here's hoping the weather stays good.

You sound a really committed gardner Brian & know your stuff, and you in you are in a beautiful area on the Firth of Clyde in 'Bonny Scotland'. I have a few old memories from when we had camping & caravan holidays near you at Wemyss Bay.

Excellent Brian, must be wonderful to watch everything coming to fruition, then best of all being able to eat what you have produced, good work.
