What Goes Around

The ancient Romans and the Greeks
We now regard as religious freaks
They had a God for every season
One was named for any reason
A God for this, a goddess for that
Every one wore a different hat
Then Caesar heard the Christian call
and so decreed one God fits all
An economical way to pray
One - stop shop the religious way
It spared the trauma of God selection
To guide them in a new direction
Pagan festivals were cut to a fraction
Much to the emperor's satisfaction
No more picking, an end to choosing
Farewell to orgies, and a lot less boozing
This lasted for two thousand years
But like many things ended in tears
Satan played a waiting game
False Gods have re - appeared again
The deadly sins are back in fashion
Gluttony, greed and reckless passion
Envy, sloth and false pride too
Anger and avarice join the queue
The saying is true, the message sound
What goes around, will come around

This was one Of the first poems I had published
in the local press (Nottingham Post) in 10/2/2010
I had a little difficulty posting it but my
Granddaughter sorted it out

I attended a poetry group some years ago
and a friend offered to pick a selection of my work
and get it published.I had written over 300 poems
It was only intended for friends and family
but after some discussion we put a price on it
so we could donate copies to the local church
so they could keep any proceeds from copies sold.
He did a great job but there were some printers errors which
I should have spotted which was disappointing
As far as I know nobody has asked for their money back
There were only 150 copies printed

Very nice John. Have you thought of doing the corrections and publishing more copies. I live in the USA and would gladly buy one from you.
