Wish it was Norman! Anyway, Jimmy Guy, the verger of St Pauls is very ill just now and I am sure we all wish him well. Jimmy is undergoing some very serious surgery next Thursday. I have worked with him over the last 10 years uncovering some new history. ...

Hope all goes well .Remember when I took the Grandchildren to the church to show them where I was christened and he took the font top of to show them so nice .

Maria, the reason why we have font tops goes back to the medieval era when the monks used to steal the holy water to make ale. From then they were locked! Rievaulx Abbey near York turned out 2000 gallons of the stuff every month. It went off quick so they invited the local ladies in for a booze up at weekends! Trust me Maria, I got that info from Martin Whittock, a university lecturer at Oxford and advisor to the BBC !

Thanks Stan that is very interesting something we would never know .Have a connection with Oxford had my first son at the John Radcliffe near enough where the university is so many top scholars the same with Newcastle .

Locally known as the JR Maria. I’m sure you will remember. Spent a few nights there last year. Lucky to have a superb hospital, as does Newcastle, I believe called the Freeman.

Yes Sheila a good hospital .l would have been in the older part over 50 years ago .Got the train from Didcot to Oxford walked up passed Carfax to the JR for my ante natal appointment seems like yesterday . 5 stars to the Freeman .

Maria, the new John Radcliffe opened in 1972. I don’t know when Maternity transferred from the old Radcliffe in the centre of Oxford. I know I went to the old Radcliffe for an eye appointment in 1980. It officially closed in 2007 when all the services were transferred to the John Radcliffe. It is now student accommodation for Oxford University. The new John Radcliffe is in Headington.

Sheila my son was born 1970 . So I would have been in the old part .Hope Sheila you are keeping welli have had top up on both knees cortisone second time can recommend get about 3 months relief.

Oh Maria, you must have been suffering to have cortisone, I remember our neighbour having that injection for his knees. Good news it has you more mobile and gives pain relief. Does the warmer weather help. I’m ok thanks Maria. As they say mustn’t grumble.😊

Thanks Sheila you are right heat does help.But the couple of months is so good .Arthritis is a terrible thing so many people .Glad you are ok take care .
