While appreciating that this site is, quite rightly, focused on our/my 'home' area, I thought I would share a typical '6th Form politics' quote from my, and Liz Dance's local Green MP.

"This week's Nato summit has left Britain "more exposed" according to the Greens, as the party took aim at "bullying, bellicose" Donald Trump.

The party's foreign affairs spokeswoman Ellie Chowns MP said: "The Nato summit has left us all more exposed to the threat of nuclear war and failed to offer people across the world a strategic vision of a more peaceful world.

"Here in the UK, the Labour government has already slashed aid for the most vulnerable around the world to make way for increased arms spending and next week will try to force through cuts to disability support to pay for more.

"We do not need new US-controlled fighter jets to carry US-controlled nuclear weapons paid for by UK taxpayers that will make the world a more dangerous place.

"The UK government should be leading efforts to reduce and eliminate nuclear arsenals, not paying for the US to base more of them here. There is a choice to be made between welfare and warfare."

Straight out of the Jeremy Corbyn playbook.

I hope the local electorate will remember come the next GE.

Peter, I was horrified when I saw how Ms Chowns had voted, she should remember she represents a constituency that has the SAS Barracks located in it, she is most certainly not representing the views of the people I know in the constituency, this female got elected because the Tory vote was split between Tory and Reform, such nonsense, mind you Sir Bill Wiggins did not help himself during the election campaign, that is water up under the bridge now.

Isn’t it strange that once these people get elected they totally forget what they got elected to do and that is represent the will of their constituents not what they want to do, I hope she gets booted out at the next election.

Apologies to board contributors as this is not Hebburn or Neighbours related but it does concern us all, I believe there were 11 MPs who voted as Ms Chowns did, Corbyn, Abbott, McDonell, 2 Greens , all nutters, were but a few of the 11 MPs.

Thank you Liz for saying what I was thinking. God help us if we need loyal British People to stand against terrorists. At the moment we have loyal soldiers who fought against the IRA might now find themselves in court for killing the enemy. We have the Irish Friday agreement , because Tony Blair agreed to terrorists being released to please his mate, Bill Clinton. What future young men will be willing to fight for their country when they see how let down they are by politicians.

You are correct, Liz, I am sure the Greens were not elected on a CND ticket.

I used to have a CND badge and a YCL badge back in the 60s but at 15 years of age I didn't have a clue what it all meant. The Greens are aping my teenage mindset as grown-ups.

If anyone has watched 'Race across the World' on terrestrial TV here in the UK,they will have seen how ordinary people in China and India bent over backwards to be friendly to the British people in this programme.
No matter what country they visited, the people were so friendly.
Governments are the ones that cause wars so Leaders need to start talking to each other & become friends.
Will they ever learn that no one wins in wars apart from the Companies that produce weapons.

You are right Norman but unfortunately Leaders don’t or won’t listen so countries have to protect themselves in the event that they are attacked, crazy but that’s how it is.

We in the UK need to be able to protect ourselves in the event of an attack, which the way things are going could be from within.

I think when we were younger we were all a bit green behind the ears but, like you Mac the majority of us grew up and realised what was going on.

I think when we were young we all lived with the fear of The Soviet Union using the Atomic Bomb. Remember President Kennedy warning the Soviet Union to turn a Russian ship back as it was on its way to Cuba with Russian Missiles which America would not allow. For so many days in the 1962 we all held our breath, until Khruschev ordered the ship back to Russia. The world held its breath!
