This church was built in 1872-73, and was financed by Andrew Leslie the ship builder. Grade II listed. Leslie had it built for the Scottish shipyard workers. A very generous man. However, there are no records of the spire height for some reason. There is a massive dispute as to who designed the church. Records show that....

My Dunn grandparents were from Old Kilpatrick apparently where St Patrick was born, hence the towns name.
When they migrated to Hebburn, St Andrew's became their families Church.

And up here in Scotland, a place-name with the prefix KIL means "church of Saint"..

Locally, we have Kilwinning (Church of Saint Winning), Kilmarnock (Saint Marnock) etc etc
