Why on earth did we work all our lives paying NI on the understanding it was for a State Pension

Having worked from the age of 17 until I finally retired at 70, I paid NI contributions until I reached 60, I paid as I didn’t have a choice but, it was always on the understanding that I would be paid a State Pension from the age of 60 until I died, now I am reading that I might not be entitled to a State Pension plus other benefits, I could be means tested.
I ask what is the point of working, paying Income Tax and NI contributions whether I wanted to or not to now being told I might loose what I have paid for, on the other hand someone who has contributed nothing, probably not even born here will probably be paid a Pension plus other benefits, if I had my life over again and know what I now know I would think twice about doing the right thing it just isn’t worth it, I feel very aggrieved.
I should also mention I contributed to private pensions as I didn’t want to live my retirement years relying on benefits, that is not my way, the amounts paid into private pensions were made based on a State Pension that I thought I was contributing into and,I believe, quite rightly should receive.
God only knows what this money grabbing Government, especially from Pensioners, will do next.
Forget the tea. A large Brandy should hit the spot. It is only a proposal at the moment BUT with the morons currently at the helm.......who knows?

I agree it is only a proposal but the previous government mooted this idea as well, if the idiot moron in charge of the country’s finances thinks it’s a good idea she has 4 years to work on it, I have a feeling though that the outcry would be worse than that of the loss of the winter fuel payment. I just wonder if it would be possible to take the government to court should they try anything like this, I am sure that a fighting fund would be full to the brim to pay costs, I would like to think so.
A brandy not for me but now you have put the idea of an alcoholic drink in my head I think a large Pimms might be in order !!!

i'd like to know why Labour Party Mp's have not 'twigged on' that their so called leader is an Idiot. He gave himself away when he pleaded with Hamas to release the sausages. MPs should have got shot of him straight after that speech cos the rest of the world saw it and are all laughing at this joke of a PM. No one takes him seriously..
