We always called that short sands - - between the groyne and the pier.

The Postcard printer got it wrong as we called that 'The little beach'.(now Little Haven)

The Long sands was from the Pier to Trow Rocks

Norman, a long stand was a trades person telling his apprentice to go to the stores and get some wooden welding rods,for a special job.It may have been an iniation test as well. Circa 1975 ish.
Why other ex apprentices have a similar thing.

Tradesmen trying to trick new starters were used when I was an apprentice in the 60s David and probably over many many years earlier.
