Is St James Boulevard a bus station, I seem to recall my late mum catching the coach from there?

Yes Liz that was the Gallowgate bus station.

Although it wasn't an official bus station, the street between Bowers cafe and the Catholic cathedral had a large number of bus stops,possibly because it was opposite Central Station. One Station you have missed was Eldon Sq bus station which was under the shopping centre.

I often wonder, why there were so many in different parts of Newcastle, my guess would be to serve the different district outside from the town.
