I just cannot believe this

Just got this from a news channel the other day. How the heck can this happen? I've certainly never heard of anything like it before. How can it be done......skimming of funds into their own bank account. I bet these individuals will never be named and shamed ...hushed up like most things are.
DWP staff stole benefits that should have gone to pensioners and disabled people Benefits cash intended for carers, pensioners and disabled people has been stolen by Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) employees, The i Paper has found. Some staff have siphoned off benefits money for their own gain. They have also abused the system by ignoring rules to approve claims for people who may not be entitled to benefits, according to an official government report. In total, more than £1.7m was lost in 2024-2025 because of DWP employee benefits fraud.
In the past, staff have been jailed or received a suspended sentence for stealing employment and support allowance, carer’s allowance and winter fuel payments by diverting the money into their own bank accounts.
The revelation of fraud among a small number of staff in charge of benefits for the country’s most vulnerable people is likely to put pressure on the Government, which has promised to crack down on claimants who are “benefit cheats”.
Baroness Ros Altmann, a former pensions minister, said: “DWP staff stealing money from benefit claimants is obviously really shocking.
Thanks for publicising this theft Ricky. Hopefully the thieves will get caught and gaoled along with a few MPs. How can some of them be millionaires? Apparently Angela Rayner and Lammy are very wealthy now.
Ricky, unfortunately that’s how it us these days, these people will probably be let off in the unlikely event they are ever arrested, broken Britain I am afraid.
It just seems too easy for people working in DWP or anyone claiming. I read earlier the DWP was defrauded of£53.9 million by a group of Bulgarian Nationals. It makes you want weep, when all our bills are more expensive, yet foreigners can come into the country and claim millions quite easily.
The online forms aren't small, I've helped people complete PIPforms etc but you have to wonder how secure they are, I know they're cutting down on paper but they're less likely to be tampered with.
Most of the PIP assessments are done over the phone so if someone gets a hold of your info they can apply for all sorts without your knowledge. This sounds like telling the client no but then approving and directing the funds elsewhere. Where are the checks before signing off the award.
