Why is Rayner going after allotments doesn’t she realise that allotments are good for people they provide exercise, good quality produce, that kind of thing, take Brian as an example what he grows on his allotment is amazing, but hey I guess they need more space to house the ever increasing number of migrants invading our shores, the councils need more funds to house the migrants.

Allotments of a certain age are protected by a covenant and I believe ours are covered being close to 100 years old. It will cost them dearly as compensation would have to paid.

As we keep saying,this Government are the most untrustworth bunch that were ever elected. How can Angela Rayner who left school with zero qualifications be our Deputy Prime Minister?
How can Reeves an ordinary Bank Clerk produce a FAKE CV and be be given the 'Chancellor of the Exchequer' job?
Thousands of law abiding British people are being branded as far right because like us we object to thousands of FIGHTING AGE men from Muslim Countries flooding into this Christian country then being given phones, benefits, and now living in Hotels.
They are 100% illegal invaders. We dont know their names or anything about them because they deliberately dumped their passports to DECEIVE us.
Its hard to believe how stupid this amateur Government are.

Selling Assets to fund bad money management is SO short-sighted!!

You can only sell an asset ONCE.....so when you sell that asset, and spend the cash, when it's all gone, what do you do next????

Malcolm, that is the point none of the present Government, Starmer included, have any business acumen, they just don’t understand even the basics of anything, it is quite frightening to say the least.

Norman, I remember when the socialists called anyone with an education posh. Really divided people. Anyone who had a private education was look down on. Sadly there were people in Tory and Labour who were determined to destroy Grammar Schools . Now we are suffering from SOME uneducated people with jobs as MPs. I noticed recently people are not using the name Comprehensive for what was secondary schools. I’ve head a few young people call in it High school.

I knew how they would be if given the chance. They will destroy this country with immigrants and huge taxes. They have always been the same. I guarantee they will fight to stay in power. Fraud with votes etc.

I have checked a few sites around allotments, an allotment cancellation especially those administered by local authorities is a long and drawn out process. It cannot be done as blanket cancellation and would have to be done on an individual basis, this is drawn out and costly and not guaranteed to work. Vastly underused sites are likely to be the only vulnerable sites but not before trying to reinvigorate the site.
The National Allotment Society have released a statement explaining a lot of this and how unlikely it actually is.

Sounds promising Brian, to be honest I do think Angela Rayner clutches at straws she comes out with ridiculous things, hopefully this was / is just a dream in her part, from what you are saying it would cost more to take back control of allotments than allowing people to continue doing what they obviously enjoy, working on their allotment ps. Keep up the good work.

As an aside our apples are looking good, loads of them but a bit smaller than previous years, still lots to be done with them, my husband is itching to make Apple strudel and a Swedish Apple Cake I, on the other hand, look forward to eating said items.

We have three apple trees in fruit, funnily enough the biggest apples are on the smallest tree, a pillar tree which I put in 2 years ago the other two are heavily laden, I removed about 30% of the smallest fruit to encourage growth on the bigger,remaining fruit. Our pear tree has fruited for the first time since we got the allotment, it's taken 2 years of pruning and cutting to bring the tree back to fruiting, a decent crop it's a Beurre Hardy variety so the fruit should be very tasty. Any windfall or mottled fruit will become pear and chestnut jam, the rest for eating and maybe a chocolate and pear cake or something similar. My son's plot has a quince tree so we'll be making use of those in the autumn. I'll be heading up to the allotment today to check on damage as I was away till late yesterday. Hopefully the winds have caused little or no damage.

One of our big successes are the the aubergines , we've changed from our usual variety to patio Princess, a small fruited variety and the amount of fruit it produces is phenomenal, a nice taste without a hint of bitterness that some of the larger varieties can possess.

Lots of tomatoes, cucumber and chillies most of the cucumber are pickled gherkin style and the cherry toms being turned into semi dried tomatoes with basil and garlic then bottled. We've ordered some new storage and shelving for the produce so assembling that will keep my weekend occupied.

I wonder if there's a rundown allotment site near Angela Raynor and she assumes they are are all the same, she's in for a shock, as the Allotment Society patron is the King and has over 125 thousand members including Jeremy Corbyn, he has an allotment in London, and we met him at a friend's restaurant last year he said the local authority had tried to strong arm some land off their site but the committee which contained a solicitor amongst it's cohort and sent the local authority packing with the solicitors expertise. He was with someone we knew and was introduced to us, he talked allotments to us for about 30 minutes and we'd mentioned losing a site locally a few years back which wasn't council ran. Never mentioned politics neither did he but he said the range of people on his site was remarkable and from all
walks of life, that's systematic of most sites that were originally aimed at the working class of the locality there's a mix of retired, working people from all walks of life and a much more diverse mix. It adds up to a very friendly mix on our allotment site and the site is all the better for it. We have no vacant plots which means less overgrown plots and weeds, a positive situation for all.

Evidently the allotments mentioned had gone through 12 months consultation which is statutory, so although not her greatest fan it's not down to Angela Raynor, it was done under the previous government.

I think that this is the consultation referred to and it was initiated during the term of the latest Government so even though the Tories had some poor ideas I am not sure we can blame them for this one.
The reigning Sec of State signed it off so there it is!!
