Newcastle and Sunderland. Watched both matches this morning (my time).Sunderland was the most entertaining of the two.

Hi Bill.
It shows how money has ruined football.
I've always been a Newcastle fan, but well done Sunderland who are a cost very little team in comparison.
Too many mercenaries come for the money and have no love for their team.
Disgraceful how an African on well over £100,000 per week wants to move to Liverpool to get more money.

He's Swedish, born in Stockholm, this is down to his agent, he's been banned from a number of clubs including Ajax because of his conduct. Isak is an idiot listening to him, he allegedly was told by the agent to work himself with the club to drive down the transfer and make the run want rid. Told not to put in transfer request as it will cost him and his agent money. Parasite.

Spot on Brian.
He is obviously a great footballer but not the sharpest knife in the box when it comes to issues like this.

And why would a club buy him now that he has shown his disregard for a well paid contract which he entered into freely.

As a point of principal I would like him relieved of a squad number and in the light of his refusal to train/play, surely withholding salary must be an option.

If that means that my club suffers in the top 6 race....so be it.

Refusal to play or train is liable to a fine of 2 weeks wages according to the footballers union, I would ask him every week and if he refuses a further 2 week wage fine. He's on £120k per week, so hitting with a weekly fine close to a quarter of a million will wipe the bravado of him and his agent. They'll have to submit a transfer they'll lose 10% of any transfer or agree to fulfill his contract

Not really, Carroll had just signed a new contract when Liverpool came in with the £35million offer, Ashley took their hand off and told him he was going and the helicopter was waiting, so late in the window we couldn't get a decent replacement, got Marlon Harewood instead.

Andy Carroll has been lamenting about his move, according to him he never wanted to go to Liverpool, he had just bought a new house and apparently he had just acquired a cat!!.

Carroll is not happy about the way Isak is behaving, don’t think many people are, I did read that Isak has been warned not to wander round Newcastle alone, his behaviour is very petulant, obviously his ‘Agent’ is not advising him very well, thing is the situation is very disruptive for everyone else.

Isak and his agent want Newcastle to sell him without putting in a transfer request, he has 3 years on his contract and no release clause, negotiated by his agent so Newcastle are within their rights to refuse to sell him,his actions and that of his agent could end up in court as the club may well sue them both. Any threat in that direction will curtail the agents action and ruin any credibility he has left. Let's hope it happens.

I watched Sunderland's progress in the transfer window and had an inkling that Sunderland would at the very lest survive in the PL.
This first game vindicated my opinion. They were excellent with Xhaka pulling the strings.

I'm a lifelong Magpie but am delighted that the Mackems are back in the top league. It is good for the whole area.

Well done but, hey, I didn't mean that I wanted them to be above NUFC in the table at any stage in the season

or to win when they first meet.

Well done Sunderland and I hope they stay , but below toon and we win derbies.
Mac your sentiments are well meant but why should club lose out in table because of cancerous infection it needs cut out quickly to allow healing and recovery.
New additions additions applied to rise up not down.

Sometimes "Cancers" need remedial action David....not cut out!
The threat of not playing for a year and being constantly fined or not paid at all could be enough to restore sanity.
It is a risk strategy I agree but I believe it to be the right one in the long term.

It worked in the USA. Baseball and Hockey players were shut out by the club owners for a whole season (not at the same time). No pay for them for a year and they eventually agreed to a salary cap
