Prince Philip was the Queens Consort. But never called King Philip.
WHY THEN are the media calling the kings wife 'Queen Camilla'????????
She is the King's Consort.

I don’t know Norman, but the late Queens father was King
George V1 and his wife Lady Bowes -Lyon was called Queen.

I was always lead to believe that if we had a King by birthright then his wife would then become Queen.
On the flipsde if we had a Queen by birthright her husband was only allowed to be known as her Consort and not King.

Keith That's how I understood it too, but I think it was King Charles who said his wife should be called Queen

Rhoda, I think you are right, Camilla was going to be called Queen Consort but I think Charles amended that so she would be called Queen.

Don't I recall that it was the late Queen Elizabeth II that stated that, on the accension of Charles, then Camilla should have the title of Queen.

And I'm not one for arguing with my old boss !!!

I am pretty sure the late Queen Elizabeth 2nd said Camilla was to be Consort NOT Queen.

My son wrote to the Queen EII with this question. I will look for the reply. It is a long standing tradition, Kings Wives become Queens, Queens husbands never become Kings.

I looked this up on Encyclopedia Britannica and found this:

"Prince Philip did not have the title of king because of British royal tradition whereby a man marrying into the royal family does not assume the male version of the title held by his wife."

And with Princess Annes' 2 husbands, Mark Phillips, was never known as "Prince Mark"...etc...etc..

Similarly, Princess Margarets' Husband. Lord Lichfield, his own title, but NOT a Prince..

Malcolm, Princess Anne vetoed a title for her husband as she didn’t want their children to inherit titles. Princess Margaret husband was Antony Armstrong Jones and given the title Lord Snowden. Lord Lichfield was a distant cousin I believe.

Patrick Lichfield was a cousin of HM Queen and was the Royal Photographer.

Have to agree with you, Linda. It's a heirarchy thing, as a King would outrank a Queen, hence Philip could never be called King, as that would out-rank Elizabeth, the Queen.

King is a Higher rank than Queen (slightly).....The Wife of a REIGNING King is entitled to be called Queen (Consort)......The Husband of a REIGNING Queen is called (Consort)...Hence Prince Phillip of Greece was known as HRH Prince Phillip, The Prince Consort, However he despised the title according to rumour, and was always known as HRH Prince Phillip, The Duke of Edinburgh.
Princess Annes Husband and her Ex Husband do not have the Title ""Prince"" because neither Mark Phillips nor Timothy Laurence are the Grandchildren of a Monarch.....(The requirement for the Title of Prince or Princess)

Just heard back from my old mate, Phil. He's at the top of North Island, a place called Tauranga.

He's heard that you get more Sun than anywhere else in NZ !!

But he's quiet a way from you!

Hi Sheila, the population of the whole country is about 5.8 mill.The North Island is the most populated with around 4 million people. This is mainly due to the larger cities up there meaning more work. I prefer the South obviously!

Hey Linda. As an aside.. I had some ancestors that emigrated to NZ, back in the 1800's, but then moved to Australia.

Odd, but there you go. I was never sure if any remained in NZ.

So..long shot.. have you ever come across anyone by the name of Siddle in NZ?

The family name Siddle.

There is or was a transport company called Siddle from the Consett area they got themselves in building Carvans under the Elddis name which is still going strong.

You never know but a very vague link somewhere.

Hi Allan C. Yes, Elddis caravans are still going strong, the name came from reversing the spelling, obviously.

Checked that line many years ago, and they link into a line that originated in Wolsingham, Co Durham, many of whow I've shared research with, but we still can't connect the two lines...

Maybe one day....
