Newtown Shopping Centre Memories

For the weekend, here's a blog post with some of my memories of the Newtown Shopping Centre in the 1970s.

Mr Halls name was Bob, I remember Mallams, great pies, there was a boutique in the
Mall sold both men's and women's clothes, got my first pair of split knee loons there.There was a wallpaper shop (Hector Grabans?), Pop In record shop and a few units that did change quite regularly. I'll try and rack my brains see if anything else falls out.

Brian was it not Gustards who sold the pies and savaloy dips? Hayton the chemist invented a hair lacquer removal shampoo at 1/3d but it was removed due to non tested by the RPS. His name was Robert Raymond Francis Theodore Hayton. It was on a certificate in his shop. Still remember it! I can name more shops but want to hear from the regular board members...

I remember Caxton shoe shop, sold good shoes including children’s Clark’s shoes.

Mallam was opposite Duncans supermarket, Gustards was opposite Danbys.

I remember crawfords where hebburn helps is now. This would have been in the 70s . They were bakers we had a birthday cake done there. Always fresh.
