Paragliding
Posted by Allan C. on 13/9/2025, 7:33 pm
An hour or so ago there were 7 “ Paraglider’s” up from RAF Leeming or from close by.
They appeared to stay to the east side of the A1(M).
The wind quite strong and I wonder how they managed to take off, tow winch or aircraft tow but maybe a jump, from an aircraft but never heard an aircraft.
They were not the usual ones that you tend to see with big curved wing more like a parachute wing that special forces would use to get to a target area from an aircraft.
They flew west then east and back west before I assume landing.
They were up nearly 30 mins that I could see and that’s after I first spotted them.
They just looked like a rectangle, no fancy shape.
Not been able to find info on them on the net

For some years there has been a chap that flies over our house using a powered Paraglider or similar machine.
It’s only when conditions are OK.
It’s almost like he commutes to work from say Ripon area to say Leeds then back in the evening. He is usually quite high so difficult to see details. Not able to get out the binoculars in time for details.
I have thought that the same chap sometimes uses a helicopter.
When the wind is in the right direction we hear aircraft taking off from Leeds/Bradford.
When we lived in Knaresborough we often had the V bombers just off to the east.
Now we sometimes hear Typhoons but where they are ? could be Dishforth doing touch and go. Leeming too far away.
Of course they be flying in the dales and the sound carries far.
