So that's what Ann's sister Charlotte was in.

Looking at my photo with a magnifying glass the tie had strips on it. Possibly three strips with larger gap between.

I had just spotted that the cap badge was lozenge or diamond shape not a rectangle.

Her coat could have been her own but you never know.

The buttons on the front of the caps, some have one, others two. Maybe a "rank" type thing but only amount of service etc.

I think we know very little of what happened in those war years particularly those that left school and went where and did what.

Plenty of about the Forces but little about the home front.

Snippets like that that pot up now and again are great.

No doubt I had seen the group photo that you have put on the board in the past but now there is a personal touch.

I shall pass the info on to Charlotte’s surviving children.

One possible reason. Economy of clothing materials. Maybe uniform materials required for service personnel.

How on earth did we get from girls not wearing jackets to U boats - - - Allan you must stop drinking coffee and let your mind have a rest!!

Why give my mind a rest ? It keeps you going don’t want to loose my marbles!

An Active mind making up for loss of physical abilities.

It’s I suppose Lateral thinking which developed during my working days and by gum very useful when doing Family History if you go deep into it like I did.

At work you had to be able to switch from one contract to another or maybe a third in almost seconds and often big money involved.

The phone could ring and you were away on something else. A complete mind switch at times plus I had to keep track of what was going on in the Office maybe being asked a question by our boss or one of the other lads. 15 years of that pressure but you adapted.

As for not having jackets and the U boats they are all linked particularly at that time.

Norman, I believe that the back row 3 girls on far right are Wardley girls. I should know the names but at this time can't think. Perhaps Lynn Green would recognize and be able to name them. Regards, Audrey
