Chancellor to hit pensioners pockets

It’s predicted that we pensioners with have to pay NI plus other ways of grabbing our cash.

I understand that NI starts at about £240 odd earnings per week at about 8%. If employed.

Those of us that benefit from a private and or works pension plus the State one will be hit so if your pensions are say £500 per week you could have to fork out say £20 per week. No doubt they would adjust the rates etc to get more money!

As Harrogate is a more affluent area there are a lot of better off pensioners. That is probably why there are a lot of pubs and restaurants open ( and I do mean a lot)

Any additional money like NI taken from pensioners could well mean that they cut down their entertainment expenses and that would hit all the pubs etc. and cause maybe closure of some.

You then end up loosing money from staff the worked in the pubs.

We pensioners have in the past had rainy day money. My parents did and so do we. If for nowt else our funerals.

Way back our parents and grandparents used to keep money CASH in say the wardrobe of up in the loft.

I remember in 1984 asking mum after Dad died where were the Gold Sovereigns that Dad had. I knew where they used to be kept.
I was sorting out for probate. He had sold them a few years earlier.

These days money is in banks and other things like ISA’s

Now that money is not “ dead money” it’s used by banks etc to fund business etc to help the economy and thus the workforce who pay employment taxes.

It the same for wealthy people, money goes into banks etc. and funds business etc.

It’s said that thousands of Millionaires have up sticks and gone abroad taking their money with them. So the economy takes a big hit. Effectively you shoot yourself in the foot as far as the economy is concerned.

If a wealthy person buys a new Roll Royce it’s often frowned on, but that money goes on to pay employees and fund other parts of the company. Money makes money and makes the world go round.

Back in 1967 I won what I thought was a Fiver, Ann phoned me at work and said your cheque has arrived.

When I got home she gave me the cheque, it was for £1,600 so we paid off loans and replaced our car, residue into the bank. The start of our rainy day fund.

Unless you have cash or gold bar hidden away your money is working for the economy in some form.

You are reading the rumored proposal incorrectly Allan. Many others are doing the same. Beware headlines in rags like the Express!
No it is not proposed that pensioners pay NI.
The left wing Foundation behind the proposal is saying cut NI for Employees by 2% but increase Income Tax by 2%.
It is an unwelcome Income Tax rise that could hit pensioners!!!

The triple lock pension increases are to expensive, they will have to find a way to take some back with tax. I don’t think the country can continue to afford it.

The but is it the same or similar thing dressed up in a different way and no doubt rakes in more money.

From the press it appears that they have it in for pensioners. Their plus is that pensioners cannot strike.

When Labour took over the economy was growing following the pandemic. They have managed to totally reverse it.

The Express is a good newspaper yes biased as are all newspapers, at least you get a read.

Yes the Express say a lot about it but I read other news feeds.

Birmingham Live is very good, I have no idea about its leanings, left or right.

Their read on NI is similar to the Express, however are to 2 connected?

No doubt this weekend we may find out more as it’s the Labour Party Conference.

I await the Porkie’s that will be spouted!

Birmingham live is imho absolute rubbish and it is part of the Reach Group which owns similar online titles across the UK. The Mirror, Star Record, and Express are part of that empire. They share the same stuff across the country. Frankly I wouldn't wrap my chips in them (when it was legal to do so)!
I certainly do not see any of them as a source of accurate news and headlines are deliberately concocted by the so called journalists to confuse or just be "clickbait"

If my husband notices that I am getting irritated with something that I am reading he always enquires if it is The Express that I am reading, he has no time for whatever they publish, I do think he has a point.

Well I’ve read the Daily Mail since the 1960’s and whenever I’ve said anything to my daughters that they disagreed with the always used to say” I bet you read that in the Daily Rant” I would say yes I did and I don’t care🤣🤣

My husband has an online subscription to the Telegraph, it was always his ‘go to’ newspaper, now the Telegraph are coming up with some articles that don’t quite hit the mark, I feel the subscription might be getting cancelled.

Like you Sheila I have read the Daily Mail for years, read it on line now, but when on holiday it was always my mission to find the place that sold the Daily Mail, in the early days I had to make do with the paper being a day late but things changed and in France, for example, before the paper being available on line, I was able to get my paper late morning!!!
