Isolation Hospital

The Isolation Hosptal at Jarrow Slake in 1920. She was built by Wood, Skinner at Bill Quay in 1886 and was towed to her position after her launch as a completed structure. The facility offered care and treatment for seamen from foreign parts suffering from rare and infectious diseases contracted abroad. The hospital was dismantled in 1930.

Yes, it was situated at Jarrow Slake. You can see it next to the big floating dock in the centre of this photo.

Doctors and nurses must have been dedicated to work there in those days.

It would have been afloat being built at Woodskinners yard. It had a slipway and was later the car park at Marconi at Bill Quay.

The company went bust in 1925. Just in time!
