My great uncle Martin Joyce was one of the marchers I never knew him but I’m immensely proud of him and his fellow walkers x

I always loved the Lindisfarne song "Marshall Riley's Army" about the Jarrow March. The lyrics are so spot on. Alan Hull sadly missed and wholly under-recognised as one of Britain's greatest songwriters.

In October '36 they took a trip
The men who made the ships
Searching for some kind of salvation
With head held high and dignified
The townsfolk and the passers-by
Held them in some kind of admiration

The Government of the day might not have helped but Sir John Jarvis certainly did.He was a Conservative MP in Surrey and gave tremendous help to us. What a great man he was.
But we still continued voting Labour even after all that marvellous help he gave us.
