Grandma’s Shawl

Soft draped,upon a casket plain
Never to be worn again
Symbolic of a life well spent
Redolent with rich lavender scent

No will to be read,no wealth to disperse
Just a few coppers,in a well worn purse
Times were bleak,money was scarce
Through a daily struggle,for better or worse

Uncomplaining,proud,unbroken
No heartfelt praise was left unspoken
Shared memories of care and love
Ensures warm welcomes up above
Her legacy of love and laughter
Lingers forever in the hereafter

I remember my Nanna Cherry sat in her chair wearing a long Black Dress and Shawl, never seemed to move but ruled the house with a rod of iron, even my Aunts and Uncles had too be in by a certain time but she loved her Grandchildren !
