Good afternoon all i was wondering if anyone has any idea who could fix a printer ???? ttfn

I found this advice Elaine.
Has it broken down or is it just that the ink has dried up due to lack of use?
Printers have to be used regularly or that happens.

It is worth repairing a printer if the repair cost is less than half the price of a new one and the printer has valuable features or is a high-end
model. However, if it's an average, inexpensive printer, or if parts are hard to find, replacement is often more economical. Consider the printer's age, how often you use it, and its overall lifetime usage to make the best decision.

If it's an average inkjet printer and it hasn't been used for a long time, try running the deep cleaning routine a few times and see if that unclogs the print heads. As Norman says, see if the ink has dried up and replace the cartridges if necessary.

I recently bought an Epson printer that uses ink tanks instead of cartridges\. You fill the tanks up with ink from bottles, and it seems to last much longer than the cartridge type of printer and not so prone to drying out.

It’s best to buy an Epson printer as they are the only ones that allow you to use compatible printer cartridges which are cheaper that manufacture’s own make.

I assume that’s still the case as bought my Epson 2 years ago.

All previous comments valid.

If you do not use your printer a lot do print off a sheet or two ever month say just to keep it working.

If I’m going on holiday for a month I print off few sheets but they are usually info that I may require while away.

On return a few printed off anyway “ catch up “

To me it’s a waste of time trying to get a printer repaired.

Fit new cartridges if you have them and do a cleaning run but do try to clean inside before fitting. However that is usual almost impossible as the GUNG can be a bit thick and access very difficult.

I had to ditch my A3 printer because of the GUNG that built up over 6 years or more.

Beware buying a cheap printer as they can cost more in the long run because of cartridge cost.

Sorry but it’s a minefield and to actually set up a new printer can be difficult as instructions not always very good.

If buying a new printer expect to pay £100+ for decent one but that’s my thinking, others may differ.

Allan, I have a HP Deskjet 2540 printer which I've had about 8 years and I have used compatible cartridges in it a few times no problem.

My A3 was an HP and took compatible cartridges but things have changed hence That’s why I bought an Epson after my Cannon printer died.

If you get cartridges from Cartridge World they I think tend to be genuine refurbished cartridges. I used them a lot but they closed here some years ago so bought on line compatible ones.

The price for compatible cartridges can be half the price of manufacturers ones. Of course it depends on of how much printing to do. I used to do a lot but not now.

So you need to check what’s available etc. plus price. It could be very area to area.

Hope you can fix it Norman, can’t help there. What I can say is don’t get HP! Even ‘Which’ says same.
I’ve had 2 of them for years, very good not many problems. I subscribed monthly to ink as I was using a bit for my choir music.
Long story short they stopped me from using the cartridges in it after I cancelled, wouldn’t work! I’d spent a fortune over the years for pages I just wasn’t printing. They got the better deal there. It was just mean. They wouldn’t let me use up what was left.
I saw a post HP had on Instagram and everyone was complaining on there about their service. They were showing off about racing cars I think but all the replies were frustrated printer owners!
I posted my thing and got a reply there saying she would sort it with my details. I declined unless they did it for everyone, went quiet.

I have the opposite experience with HP Envy machines Jackie which I have found very reliable and inexpensive to buy.
Like you did, I subscribe and have done for years. It cost me 3/4 pounds a month for my usage and although some may see it as expensive it meets my needs and is very convenient.
I have never had an issue with HP's admin but the way you appear to have been treated is not impressive.

Same printers Mac. We have 2, one with subscription for me. I was mostly quite happy for years. Just pretty mean to stop me using up the ink left after my loyalty for years.
