HMS Whirlwind

HMS Whirlwind pictured in Palmer's, Jarrow dry-dock 13th July 1953 after her conversion from "W" class destroyer to a Type 15 fast anti-submarine frigate. HMS Whirlwind was built at Leslie's, Hebburn and was laid down 31st July 1942 and launched 30th August 1943 and was complete July 1944. In 1966 HMS Whirlwind was placed on the disposal list. On 12 August 1969 she was towed from Portsmouth to Pembroke Dock for use as a target. She foundered at her moorings in Cardigan Bay on 29 October 1974 while in use as a target.

I wonder what all the white posts at the edges of the decks were for.
The overhaul was very very extensive according to The Naval-Encyclopedia.
When photo taken she did not have the depth charge throwers installed.
