Peter another excellent photo.
Seeing the various groups of men gathered together I wonder if they are what I understand were in what was called Rings, or maybe about to form or disperse from Rings.
Certainly in 1937 there were Rings outside Leslie’s.
Each Ring was usually for a particular trade, joiner, carpenter, platers etc. a foreman or similar would come out of the Yard and pick out workers.
How do I know this. Davy Cram wrote about them in his memoirs and his son Barrie gave me a copy of the part that contained information about my Grandfather Campbell for which I was very very great full for.

What an amazing historical photo. Reminds me of when seamen went to the ‘pool’ to get a ship.
