Is the Ark in Hebburn Hub in a pressurised case and if yes, why?

How oldish it and where had it been before coming to Hebburn? I believed it to be made by apprenticees

Funnily enough, I had planned to go to Gateshead/Hebburn today, to meet up with one of my brothers...

However, as the saying goes; "The best laid plans of mice & men, oft go asunder" (Apologies to Rabbie Burns!!)

Found this, although no details re a pressurised case there are other informative snippets.

A model of Noah’s Ark has been installed in Hebburn Central, on loan from Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums. The model was made by shipwrights at the ship repair yard of Palmers Hebburn Co. Ltd. It came 5th place in a national competition in London in 1947. The model was designed by E.L. Champness, and constructed by J.A. Cochrane, R. Crookston, C.A. Harding and W.J. Kennedy.

Cllr Richard Porthouse said, “I remember going to the Theatre Royal to see the Ark for the first time and was very impressed with it. The Ark looks fantastic in Hebburn Central and I hope it can be shown around the Borough”

Geoff Woodward, Museum Manager said, “I'm delighted that working alongside Hebburn Councillors and South Tyneside Council, Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums has been able to put this attractive and significant object on display for the community in Hebburn. It is a beautiful, historic piece that showcased the skills and creativity of local shipyard workers on the national stage and is a great source of inspiration and pride for today”

Thanks for that, Tina. Very Interesting, as my Dad was at Palmers at that time, although he was a structural engineer, rather than a shipwright.

And one of my current hobbies is building wooden model boats, pretty much from scratch..and the tool box & tools next to it measures 1" x 1/2"!!!!

This is the ships boat that Cpt Bligh was set adrift in, after the mutiny on HMS Bounty.

Sorry, this is nowt to do with Hebburn...
