End of the week Header at the busy Quayside in 1928

This lovely Postcard from Sept 1928 shows a 'Tyne built' Norwegian Cargo vessel with the new Tyne Bridge being finished off before it was officially opened in October for traffic.

As Sheila says great photo but I wonder if the date of 6th Sept 1928 (that probably came with the image you were sent) is correct and was the date the card was posted rather than the date when the photo was taken.
I say that because you can see the incomplete tower at the South end and the crane at the North end possibly finishing that tower too.
The Bridge opened on 10th October and is seems a stretch that the job was finished in 34 days!
That said I have never seen a work in progress picture showing this stage of the build and it is a fabulous shot of life continuing on the Quayside while the massive structure was being built.

She kept the same name all her working days and even returned to the Tyne to be broken up in July 1935 by Clayton and Davie at Dunston.
