Payment for Site ?

Norman, Perhaps I am wrong but am I correct in thinking that you have to pay for running this site ? If so I think that like myself many of the canny people who support the site would be more than willing to make a financial contribution.

Yes Norman pays to run this site that is why it is annoying when people complain about how it is run etc, it is Norman’s prerogative to decide what happens, the site does not belong to us, we contribute to the various threads but have no control over how the site is run.

When Vicky was running her site she asked contributors to make a contribution every year, I never had a problem with that, if the time ever came when Norman requested contributions I would contribute but he never has asked hence the site belongs to him, he allows us to use it fir which I thank him.

I have offered in the past but Norman explained how he funds it. I’m sure he knows we would all be happy to help. Mike never asked for contributions, but I remember we insisted one year. Vicky used always asked for contributions, which I never minded.

Thanks for your concern Mac.
This is my hobby and funding it is nothing compared to other hobbies people have eg Golfing. Going to Gyms etc.
The board keeps me occupied and it keeps my brain active.
Like Liz and Sheila said, I know I would just have to hint and I'd soon get plenty help.

I understand it’s a hobby but it really is a great site which shouldn’t cost you alone and to which I look forward to every day, I, and feel assured other members would be more than happy to make a financial contribution.

Those books I published covered costs of running the Forum. If I needed help I know its there

Mac, if everybody contributed there could be a problem with...... E.G.... "" I paid for the use of this site too, It's not yours to control, how dare you remove my post"" By only one person having absolute control over the site, it keeps unwanted and unnecessary comments away. IMHO

That was my point Sheila if Norman pays for the Site he owns it, he can then control the content, we are visitors, so to speak, into Norman’s home, and long may he allow us to be visitors.

When we chipped in for Mike and then paid each year with Vikki I don’t remember anyone complaining, but Steve has a point and times have changed.

I wasn’t complaining, I just think it’s such a great site and feel guilty if Norman is bearing all of the costs, it would be up to individuals if they wanted to help and I would be more than willing to.

Mac, I wouldn’t ever think you were complaining. I know what you mean, as few of us have approached Norman in the past with help any time, but he is happy as things are. It’s nice for him to know he is appreciated.

Completely agree with you, Margaret McD.

I have been meaning to get back to Hebburn for over 20 years, but things get in the way.

I finally agreed to meet GeordieboyNS...sadly not happening now... You all know why that is..

Which makes me MORE determined to get there next Spring..

No excuses...no delays.... no more "maybe later"

AS I said I don't like any fuss for running a Forum. But because I have attended Hebburn's History club in the Hub, 7pm until 9pm Thursdays a few times and gave a PowerPoint Presentation of 'Old Hebburn 'on the big screen that could be a canny venue to meet and do a presentation or two. JUST A THOUGHT

Mac, the owner of the site has / or should have access to editing control and is / or should be able to block offensive and derogatory comments or people, but if people contribute, they can claim some or part ownership and say you cannot edit or block me from ""MY"" site......that is what I was trying to convey.
