The pilot cutter in the picture is the Alert built in 1949 at Robson's, South Shields and sold in September 1961. The vessel is the Johan Jeansson of Kalmarsund Steamship Co., Kalmar, Sweden. She was built in 1930 by Helsingborgs Varfs, Helsingborg. In 1960 she became Johan for Oy Johanship Ab, Vasa and from 1963 was used as a grain storage barge.
She was broken up in Hamina in 1985.

The Groyne, Sprats and The T

That took me back to when me and my boyhood mates fished for sprats off the Groyne around where the three just above the weed line are to be seen.
But first we went crabbing to "THE T" by the Pilot Jetty. We never failed to get a haul which we used for bait (not human consumption) because those of you familiar with the area will know that we were on a sewer outlet which the crabs loved.
