The Royals and the Crown Estates

As the Prince and Princess of Wales is moving to a bigger house on the Windsor Estate, we get the usual nasty comments about them using tax payers money. The Crown Estates owned by the King make £billions every year and the agreement was made by George 3rd in 1760 for the Government to manage the estates and pay the King a payment every year for him to pay for the Royal Family. The extra billions go to the Treasury every year, so I do wish the complainers who think they are giving their taxes to the Royals every year woukd stop complaining.

Totally agree, Sheila. And, some years ago, Aunty Betty (QE 11) agreed to pay income tax, or so I remember.

Malcolm, I read about that, Did this occur after the fire at Windsor, and some people complained about the cost of restoration ??

Again Malcolm, I think when the crown estates were handed the job of managing them tax was factoring into the £billions but when the republicans started asking questions the Queen said should would pay. tax separately. When I think the civil service and the people on benefits are added up, the tax paying royals pay their share.

I don’t care what people say the Royals still bring in revenue to the UK, can you imagine having a President like, for example, the odious Tony Blair, or even the country hating Starmer?

I don’t always agree with what goes on with the Royals but it is better than the alternatives any day.
