Dire straits

I loved their recording of Brothers in Arms. I never knew that Mark Knopfler although born in Glasgow, was brought up in Blyth, Northumberland.

He might have been born in Glasgow but he is a Geordie through and through(came to area at 7).
Great NUFC fan and his Local Hero is played at every match as the players come out.

Sorry that the footage is a bit old and features AShley right at the end.

He is not an "in your face" luvvie type. I recall him saying that his favourite city to play is Lisbon because he can walk from the Arena to nearby bar and although he is recognized nobody bothers him.

First saw them at the City Hall. It was a toss between them and Police with the other Geordie boy at the Mayfair on the same night if my memory serves me right.
Also at Gateshead Stadium and Knofler twice at the Arena.
Never disappointed.

Also managed last year to see THE Geordie boy of the present, Sam Fender at St James'

Mac, I seem to recall reading somewhere that at the request of the players the music played when they were coming onto the pitch is now The Blaydon Races, apparently the players thought that the fans could sing along to The Blaydon Races, I could be wrong ?

Local Hero is played when the players are assembling in the tunnel and the Blaydon races as they emerge.

Alan Clark who played the keyboards was from Great Lumley in Chester le Street. His mum was the pharmacist in Lumley Surgery.

I think they repeated this event at the Night of the Stratocaster concert at Wembley a few years later.
