HMS Rother

Jarrow Palmer's built destroyer HMS Rother. Launched in 1905. She served throughout WW1 and was sold for breaking up by TW Ward Ltd at Briton Ferry 23rd June 1919.

That's a short life-span for a ship; 14 years!
And if she was named after the River Rother, which one?
There is one in West Sussex, and one in South Yorkshire, for which Rotherham is named.

So just Googled it, and it was named after the River in South Yorkshire.

I Googled too. It is fascinating to read the history of vessels like this which, by the picture, looked like it was old technology as soon as launched and its sale and breaking up certainly seem to support that

A Rother Close in Hebburn

I just drove into Campbell Park Rd this morning and a new houses on the left are in Rother Close. What a coincidence after seeing this thread.
