"The Chase" Tonight

The question was: the cause of the 1936 Jarrow March:
a) closure of coal mines
b) Can't remember!
c) closure of shipyards

Both the contestant, and the chaser chose "A"

WRONG

What stunned me was that that the chaser "The Menace" (who is a very smart guy) didn't realise that there had been ship building in Jarrow...

So many times on these quiz shows the answers given are wrong, I used to watch Pointless they often had the wrong answers, you would think it would all be fact checked before broadcasting.

I agree that I too am surprised that an intelligent person couldn't pick out the one claimed to be correct.
But the three answers to the question itself were obviously the product of a researcher who didn't understand the March or its issues.
Whilst Palmers closure was undoubtedly the catalyst, the final straw as it were, the March was against Poverty and Unemployment brought about by the progressive loss of the Mines heavy industry and the worldwide depression.
The causes were far too broad to be trivialised into three one word answers.
But hey. I like the Chase.........!!

We watch the Chase every night & really enjoy it.
Mind you I have said many times that its difficult to beat the Chaser when the Chaser gets easier questions.
I think the same questions should go to both parties like they did on another programme years ago.

I'm not sure if the Chasers get easier questions.

A questions seems easy if you know the answer!

In addition, the contestants get a choice of "Set A" or "Set B"....so a lottery, of what you get to answer.

If you google are the Chasers questions easier there are many viewers who think they do get easy questions and its been said for years. Last nights Chase is an example but I cant remember the easy examples.Wish I could

Watch it carefully. Sinahman always gets a medical question thrown in that a normal man would have no idea, The beast gests maths and science. Also watch the speed of Bradley Walsh asking the questions. He always gives the contestants long winded ones and speeds up for the chaser. I've said it for years, its a fix... As for choosing set A or B, notice the Chaser gets the easy ones!

An example of how the Chasers get was there to plainly see tonight.
'Where in the body is gall stored'
Half the answer was already there.

Ray being short for Raymond. Walsh did not accept Ray either and disallowed the answer. It's things like this which helps the chaser. The other one is "need an answer", hustling the contestants.

I just got fed up waiting for winners. The chasers win to often.

Yes the Chasers are very good Malcolm, perhaps they should test the contestants. Then again very knowledgeable people can suddenly have nerves.

Stan, the phrase "need an answer" is fair, they can't debate their answer for ever... he DOES give them time....but it's a game-show...so we can't sit and wait for a minute or two...
