Norman - Having moved from Hebburn some 60 years ago are there any streets etc. named after the Company or the founder- if not it seems to me a sign of disrespect of the the South Tyneside Council.

Hi Alan,
Ive complained about this for years.
Mr Reyrolle who brought over 12000 well paid jobs to Hebburn has nothing in the Town named after him since Reyrolle Court Flats were demolished in the Glen st area years ago.
Reyrolles had a Clothier High Voltage Building named after Director ( & ex Engineer) Henry Clothier who ran Reyrolles after Mr Reyrolles's death in 1919. That building was demolished not many yrs ago & a Private Housing Estate built on it with street named after birds like Nightingale, Chaffinch,Goldcrest, Robin,Swallow & Swift.
Once again nothing to thank those great men.
We've had a Leslie Ave, Hawthorn Ave & a Palmer Crescent after shipyard owners since the 1950s.
There could be another Ive forgotten

We have a Whites Gardens built on Whites Burners Factory off Prince Consort Rd
Strangely there is 5 or 6 streets named after Leslie's Ships WHY? and some real old streets after Priests and Vicars like Marr Rd. Witty Ave etc

If Mr reyrolle had of been a communist or a Marxist STC. Would have named the whole of South Tyneside after him,

Wouldnt you think one of our Councillors would read or be told about this thread ? & get something done about this matter. Surely Mr Reyrolle & Mr Clothier deserved being remembered more than naming a street after a ship built in Leslies????
