Re: Midweek Header in Newcastle - Trolley problem.
Takes me back to a Friday in late '66.I know the date and day because I was doing night classes at Northumberland Tech (now a University) Where the trolley is nearest the Church the running gear flew off the lines in a shower of sparks and hit the roof with a great bang. That was it--kaput! I had to revert to Shanks's pony! The trolleys stopped running in October and it was clear that maintenance had been neglected in the few months previously. Happy days. I don't remember much of a song a dance about it and the driver just shrugged his shoulders and said "it's regular". Today it would be a "mental 'elf issue" and he would be at the Docs for a sicknote and in touch with the DHSS arranging for a substantial benefits package.
