A view showing the Wouldhave Monument we have all passed when we were heading for the Beach. That Monument is made from sandstone quarried from Hebburn Quarry. I remember that quarry was between the Pumphouse Lake and Leslies Sportsfield & as Ive said before it was full to the brim with water & just looked like a flat piece of land. That was because Cork waste from the Shipyards had been dumped into it & as we know, cork floats so it hid the water. It was common knowledge that it was dangerous & people had drowned in it as it was very deep.
