Much as I detest Keir Starmer, I think it’s a bit rich to accuse him of destroying our so-called special relationship with the US. That ceased in 1956 with the Suez Crisis, when the US forced Britain to withdraw from Egypt (and probably led to our refusal to get involved in Vietnam.

Trump is going around slapping tariffs everywhere and anywhere then expects expects countries to put themselves into the firing line and when they don't he slags them off. He is quite happy for US soldiers to die just to justify his actions. I still think it's a diversionary tactic for the Epstein files. There's a consensus that Epstein worked for Israeli intelligence so if true they'll no doubt have the negatives and info which would be leverage against Trump.

There has never been a special relationship. It is always based on what suits which party best and that was the same way back. In WW2 FDR couldn't get any support to help in Europe until the Japs obligingly bombed Pearl Harbor. Then it became an issue which suited the US.
That said Trump is a kn** of the first order and Starmer is a wimp who hides behind legality.

I read a while back that if someone wants to become a UK Lawyer, the easiest option is a 'Human Rights Lawyer' like Duck Egg Starmer opted for.

The first military action of the US against Germany was on September 4th 1941 when the USS Greer dropped depth charges on a German submarine - 3 months before Pearl Harbour. The formal state of war between the two commenced on December 11th - 4 days after Pearl Harbour.

The Greer incident was interesting in that both craft exchanged fire but missed!! (I had to look it up!)
It was used by FDR to talk up intervention in the European situation but Pearl Harbor was the event which lead to the declaration of War as Patrick says.
