A advantage of having Army, Sea & Air Cadets

I have been told by my son that I am not allowed to say where this happened.
My son was at Work and because he is a' First Responder' he recently got the call that a man was lying in the road fairly close bye. A motorist had seen the man staggering around so he stopped and went over to ask 'Are you Ok?' and the man said no I feel terrible then dropped down dead. Then two young local teenage boys on their bicycles came along & 1 lad started doing CPR (chest compressions) on the man while the other lad raced off to get where he knew there was a Defibrillator. My son arrived & asked the young lad to continue until he gets 'his equipment out'inc a Defibrillator and he'll take over. He tried and tried until the Ambulance arrived and they tried but sadly the poor mans heart didnt restart and he died.
Those brilliant sensible young lads were army or sea cadets and hopefully they will get an award for their heroic attempt to save that man. I hope they do get an award.
Thanks to being in the Cadets they knew what to do, whilst most people would have just stood.

Agreed Norman. Two good lads with very useful training! Sorry about the poor chap who died of course.

Joining the Air Training Corps was one of the best things I did as a young lad, brilliant organization!

Seems to me that the majority of our youth just don’t seem to care anymore, loads of them saying they wouldn’t fight for the country, it that is the case then I don’t think the country owes them anything and that includes no benefits or the like.

Well done those 2 young lads just a pity they were not able to save a life in that instance.

My husband ran the local sea scouts/cadets in our local village for many years becoming district commissioner.

I was a member of 1027 Squadron Air Training Corps, left as. Sergeant to join 233 Field Squadron Royal Engineers (TA) where myself and best friend Gillie Smith were promoted to Lance Corporal’s on joining which upset some members who had been in for a long time. Happy days and memories in both and made many good friends.

My brother, Brian, joined the Parachute Regiment (TA) in 1963. He did his 5 qualifying jumps in the November of that year. You had to be 17 1/2 years old to do those 5 jumps.
So on his 17 1/2 "birthday" (November 1963) he did the 5 jumps, becoming the youngest paratrooper in the British Army! AT THAT TIME

You may note from that time-line, he celebrates his 80th birthday in a couple of weeks!

My wife knew a Brian Siddle who went to Croft Tce School. Is he related Malcolm?

No Norman. That is the "other" Brian Siddle. Not related, as yet, but we continue the family research, to find a link.
The Brian Siddle your wife knew is still alive and well, living near Coldstream, just "up the road". His father passed recently, aged 104...
He is due to visit me in a few months, not seen him since about 2002 0r so...

When were you in Steve and what is your surname, I was in from about 1954 to 1957.
