Thanks to 'Google Earth' here is a recent photo taken in Monkton Village showing the same view as the Header Photo

Two really nice photos Norman, haven’t been into Monkton Village in absolutely ages but I always thought it was quite a nice place.

I cycled through Monkton village each day to attend the Grammar School.

Nelson my first "local"

It was an occasional lunchtime haunt for us from JGS sixth form in 61/62. Back room those days! It was a bob a pint!
Then after we all started working in late 1962 it was a regular Friday night with the lads in the little room on the right where it was always 3 card brag or poker.
Well behaved youth?

I can remember as a kid being occasionally taken to the Lord Nelson by my mother and her friends / relatives, and they had a beer garden out the back with chickens etc.

I remember throwing crisps into their chicken coop and they would go bonkers trying to grab them!

Yes the Garden was a childhood treat for me too but I do not remember any chickens!
