Time

Time is now my enemy
Where once he was my friend
When I was young,the days were long
With hours to happily spend

Time for work,and time to play
Each day a joyful pleasure
Then dance and drink the night away
Fond memories to treasure

I spent his golden currency
Just frittered it away
Youth discounts tomorrow
Thinks only of today

Now he’s calling in my markers
All my tatty l,O,U.’s
He’s calling all the shots now
I’m not allowed to pick and choose

That’s why the days are much too short
Though there’s still a lot to do
But the hours fly so quickly
All my tasks are in a queue

It’s payback time when we grow old
Time is a cruel master
He makes the days so swiftly fly
And the years slip by much faster

Absolutely spot-on John. My exercise friend (who is 88 years young) and I were just commenting on this very subject this morning at class, it's like someone is steeling our time, this subject comes up from time to time - just who is it stashing away our time..... as always, enjoy your words John.

Great poem once again John. I was just thinking the other day about how quickly time passes, and your poem captures it perfectly.
